KUALA LUMPUR — The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is set to announce the appointment of a new men’s doubles head coach following the council meeting at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil tomorrow.
Although the coach’s identity has not been confirmed, speculation centres on three prominent Indonesian candidates: Herry Iman Pierngadi, also known as Herry IP, Flandy Limpele, and Paulus Firman.
The new head coach will replace Tan Bin Shen, who is leaving the role to join the Hong Kong national team next month.
The ongoing Super 1000 Malaysia Open marks the conclusion of his four-year tenure with BAM.
“Yes, the announcement for the new head coach will be made tomorrow,” a highly reliable source told Scoop today.
“It will be a foreign coach, and one of the names from the speculated list.”
Among the likely candidates, Herry IP has emerged as the strongest contender following his recent departure from the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI).
Flandy is also available, having left the Hong Kong national team last month, while Paulus remains with the Singapore Badminton Association as their doubles head coach.
Former India men’s doubles coach Matthias Boe was reportedly never considered for the position. — January 10, 2025
