KUALA LUMPUR — Former international Chin Eei Hui has confirmed that she will not return to coach independent men’s doubles players Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani.
The 42-year-old, who was named Best Female Coach of the Year in 2016, told Scoop that she remains committed to her current role at North Harbour Badminton Club in Auckland, which she joined early last year.
Eei Hui, best known for guiding mixed doubles duo Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying to the 2016 Olympic silver medal in Rio de Janeiro, was recently unveiled as the latest ambassador for sports equipment brand Victor.
Speculation had been rife about Eei Hui’s return, as Sze Fei and Izzuddin also signed sponsorship deals with Victor this month after leaving the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).
“No, I can confirm that I will not be returning to coach Sze Fei and Izzuddin,” said Eei Hui, who left BAM in 2020 to coach a group of Malaysian independent mixed doubles players.
“I joined North Harbour Badminton Club in January last year and am committed to continuing my journey with them, as I have other plans for my career,” she added.
According to Eei Hui, North Harbour Badminton Club is one of the strongest badminton clubs in New Zealand and also serves as the training base for some of the country’s national players.
The club also oversees a development programme for about 60 to 80 junior players.
Eei Hui also expressed her enthusiasm about her new partnership with Victor.
“I’m truly honoured to be part of the Victor family. They have a strong reputation for supporting athletes and investing in their growth, which is something I really appreciate.
“I’m excited about the opportunities this partnership will bring, and I look forward to representing them both on and off the court.”
Following Eei Hui’s confirmation, Sze Fei and Izzuddin will continue training with the rest of the independent players in Sri Petaling under coaches Teo Kok Siang and Rosman Razak. — September 10, 2024
