KUALA LUMPUR – The RM15.5 million wushu training centre at the Sarawak Sports Complex has been completed just in time for the Sukma Games.
The national games, which will be held in Sarawak, are scheduled from August 17 to 24.
The wushu centre, which is the biggest in Malaysia, will host the athletes from August 14 to 16.
Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah applauded the Wushu Federation of Sarawak (WFS), the Public Works Department, and the main contractor for working around the clock to complete the venue that sits on 3.1 acres of land.
“WFS deserves to have a ‘home’ of their own where they can do their training and organise competitions at the national, regional, and international levels,” he said after officiating the facility recently.
The minister noted that the sport has delivered many gold medals to Sarawak in past editions of Sukma and has produced many athletes who reached international standards.
On his expectations of the state wushu squad in the coming Sukma, he affirmed his faith that the athletes will display their abilities to bring glory to Sarawak.
“Our wushu athletes, who are in the development stage, may be facing many national exponents from other states, but I believe that the new wushu centre will inspire them to do well.
“I trust our wushu athletes to deliver as they have the advantage of competing on home ground and have undergone training stints in China,” he said. – August 12, 2024
