KUALA LUMPUR – “I have yet to unleash the best version of myself.”
This was the candid reply from Penang FC’s Syamer Kutty Abba regarding his current form in the ongoing Super League campaign.
The 26-year-old midfielder’s response comes after fans questioned his form on social media, citing that they were yet to see any improvement in the club’s league performance despite Syamer’s inclusion.
Syamer, who began his career with the Black Panthers in 2013, returned to the north-east side on loan after making 43 league appearances for Johor Darul Ta’zim FC since his debut in 2018.
Penang finished 10th in the Super League last season.
The Black Panthers currently rank eighth in this season’s Super League following their 2-0 win against Perak FC on July 13.
Speaking to Scoop, Syamer acknowledged the criticism from fans and expressed his readiness to improve his performance in Penang FC’s upcoming fixtures.
“I agree with the comments from the fans, and I admit that I have a lot to improve. Of course, fans have expectations, and I can’t blame them for that as they all know where I came from, and my track record speaks for itself.
“I just recovered from a few injuries, and I’m doing my best to give my one hundred per cent for the team with my play. This is not the best version of myself, and I have yet to unleash my full potential.
“I will be different once I start showing my real capabilities. But at the same time, football is not like tennis; it’s not an individual game. We need to work more collectively to get better.
“But from my side, I will definitely do more for the team in order for us to improve,” said Syamer when contacted.
Known for his midfield versatility, Syamer has won 14 trophies with JDT. – July 20, 2024
