KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Football League (MFL) has summoned Kuala Lumpur City FC to submit financial statements for the current season by July 16.
This request comes after the team skipper, Paulo Josue, claimed that he has not been paid his salary for seven months and is currently surviving off his savings.
According to transfermarkt.com, Josue, a 35-year-old Brazil-born attacking midfielder with a current market value of RM1.39 million, earns between RM105,000 and RM110,000 per month.
Speaking to Scoop, a spokesperson for MFL who prefers to remain anonymous revealed that the issues faced by KL City’s management pertain to this season, as the club has already settled its player salary arrears from last season.
The spokesperson expressed concern about the political divide in the highest management and the impact on KL City.
“The Malaysian football league began this season in May, and the last season ended in December. It’s obvious that the issue KL City and their players are facing is from last season.
“While this issue is attached to the Kuala Lumpur Football Association, our stakeholder is KL City. I’m worried and I feel sorry that the football club is caught in the middle of their internal tug-of-war.
“Since the league just started, not only KL City but all the clubs in the Super League should submit their financial statements by July 16 so that we can evaluate and see what kind of actions we can take regarding their overdue payments.
“If any club has overdue payments, the Financial Fair Play body can take action to ensure that there is a transfer ban in the next window. Other actions may be taken if the matters are severe and warnings are not heeded,” said the MFL spokesperson.
KL City patron and Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil previously told Scoop that despite his efforts to help the club since June last year through his discussions with secretary-general Nokman Mustaffa, the salary issues remain unresolved.
For the record, Josue joined the City Boys in 2017 and scored 45 goals in 125 appearances.
KL City FC currently ranks fifth in the Super League with four points from three matches. – July 11, 2024
