KUALA LUMPUR – National sprint sensation Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi helped Auburn University win the men’s 4x100m event at the National Collegiate Athletics Association championships in Oregon, United States, yesterday.
Azeem and three other teammates, Kanyinsola Ajayi, Dario Matau and Makanakishe Charamba, ran a blazing 38.03 seconds (s) and achieved their season best after surpassing the previous mark of 38.38s during heats on Thursday.
The Louisiana State University (LSU) quartet took silver with 38.21s, while University of Houston clocked 38.25s to settle for bronze.
Azeem is the national 100m record holder with a record of 10.09 seconds (s) and has done his best record this season of 10.24s while participating at the LSU Invitational Athletics Championships in Los Angeles on April 27.
The 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games men’s 100m bronze medallist will next face several tournaments in a row, starting with the Malaysian Open on June 14 to 16, followed by the Kazakhstan Open on June 23 to 24, and the Asean University Games 2024 in Surabaya-Malang, Indonesia, on July 2 to 5. – June 8, 2024
