KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) deputy president Datuk Ahmad Najmi Abdul Razak has been appointed the next national team manager.
MHC president Datuk Subahan Kamal said that Ahmad Najmi is the right candidate for the job.
“I have discussed the matter with (coaching committee chairman) Datuk Majid Manjit Abdullah, Ahmad Najmi and all parties have agreed to appoint him as the new national team manager.
“Even though he is the national team committee chairman we believe he is the right man for the job.
“He is very hands-on with the team and we have decided that he will start as manager with immediate effect,” Subahan told the reporters at the Buka Puasa event with the media here today.
With this move, Ahmad Najmi replaces hockey icon Datuk Mirnawan Nawawi as team manager.
Mirnawan was appointed as team manager in 2020 and left the role in January after his contract ended.
The Olympian’s contract was not renewed following the decision to disband the national team by the MHC following its failure to qualify for the Paris Olympics. – March 30, 2024
