
KUALA LUMPUR – North American Valorant giants Sentinels defeated Gen.G to be crowned Masters Madrid champions at the Madrid Arena early this morning.
The Americas League first seeds bested the Pacific team 3-2 in a tightly contested Grand Final.
Gen.G – represented by Byeon “Munchkin” Sang-beom, Kim “t3xture” Na-ra, Kim “Meteor” Tae-o, Kim “Lakia” Jong-Min and Kim “Karon” Won-tae – had a huge advantage in the best-of-five Grand Final after defeating Sentinels in the upper bracket final on Friday.
The Pacific Kickoff winners had a two-map ban where they chose to discard Lotus and Sunset. Their opponents had looked good on both maps in this tournament.
And Gen.G got off to a good start by winning their pick Breeze 13-8.
Sentinels – represented by Americans Zachary “zekken” Jude Patrone, Jordan “Zellsis” Montemurro, Brazilian Gustavo “Sacy” Henrique Rossi da Silva, Canadian Tyson “Tenz” Ngo and Moroccan Mohamed Amine ‘johnqt’ Ouarid – bounced back on their pick Bind but needed overtime to seal the map 14-12.
Gen.G regained the advantage on their pick Ascent 13-8 to lead the Grand Final 2-1.
However, Sentinels pulled level with the pick Split and then won the decider Icebox, with scorelines of 13-10 and 13-6 respectively, to win the first major of the season.
Sentinels took home a trophy and US$250,000 (RM1.18 million) in cash and three Americas League points as champions.
Gen.G took home US$100,000 in cash.
Both teams will prepare for their respective leagues next month. – March 25, 2024
