GENTING HIGHLANDS – Simon Carr dedicated his win at Stage 5 of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) today to his grandfather who passed away recently.

Today’s “Queen Stage” covered a distance of 126.4km, which started from Slim River and ended in Genting Highlands.

Regarded as the most difficult stage in this year’s race, the finish at Genting Highlands featured a Hors Category climb covering a distance of 1,625m, with the maximum gradient increasing from 11% to 13.4%.

Carr was in a class of his own galloping up the route to Genting Highlands.

With less than 4km left, he dropped his EF Education-EasyPost teammate Jefferrson Alexander Cepeda and went on his own all the way to the finish line.

Cepeda was second with Spaniard Pablo Castrillo of Equipo Kern Pharma rounding up the podium.

“It was a hard climb, we did an amazing job with the whole team taking it on.

“I’m just really happy to finish it off.

Carr said this win means a lot for him especially with the passing of his grandfather, Tony, last Monday.

“He was a really big fan, I really wanted to win this for him,” he added. – September 27, 2023
