KUALA LUMPUR — Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain is suing blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, better known as Papagomo, for defamation.
The blogger had allegedly used insulting labels on the country’s police chief in a video clip, including words like “prostitute” and “sycophant” of the prime minister. The videos, posted on YouTube and TikTok, were also widely shared on social media.
When contacted, Razarudin confirmed to Scoop his law suit, in which he is seeking damages for verbal defamation, for written defamation, general damages, aggravated or exemplary damages and special damages.
He is also seeking an injunction against further statements or words deemed defamatory from being published or re-published.
The suit was filed at the High Court here on Dec 26 by lawyer Raam Kumar through the firm K.B. Tan Kumar & Partners, and has also been served on the defendant.
Raam was reported by media saying that Razarudin is also seeking a retraction of the alleged defamatory statements by Wan Muhammad Azri, the deletion of all videos and materials published that contain the defamatory statements.
Police also have an investigation against Wan Muhammad Azmi under criminal laws over his video clip, and recorded the blogger’s statement on Dec 19.
The case is being investigated under the Minor Offences Act, the Penal Code for criminal defamation, and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. – December 28, 2024
