KUALA LUMPUR — The heads of Johor and Selangor royalty met yesterday, drawing appreciation from followers who hailed the meeting as a positive move for ties between the two houses.
Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim held an audience with Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah at an undisclosed location.
The photos of the meeting, however, were posted on his social media channels, showing the three of them in a cordial meeting. It is learnt that the meeting was held at the Four Seasons Hotel, here.
Tunku Ismail’s post on Facebook drew comments from apparent football fans, given the testy history between the two younger royals due to strong football rivalry between Selangor FC and Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) headed by them.
The acid attack on Selangor FC striker Faisal Halim in May drove a deeper wedge in their relationship.
Facebook user Hamizan Salleh posted, “Rivals on then field but relax together outside. Daulat Tuanku”.
Another user, Zaid Majid, said, “The relationship between the royalty behind JDT & Selangor is very good. Hope fans can do the same”.
“I’m happy seeing these pictures. They are OK. It’s the fans who are not ok. May all continue to be well with the royals of Malaysia…Hope that after this, fans will also unite,” posted another user called Kecik AR.
A netizen called Bro Azam praised the royals, urging them to continue holding honest discussions with each other.
“Share your views with one another for the best interests of the two states and build solidarity for the sake of the economy, sports and culture. Daulat Tuanku. Johor and Selangor are friends,” he said. – December 3, 2024
