KUALA LUMPUR – Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has issued a stop-work order on the construction of a condominium project in Wangsa Maju after an explosion on the site two days ago caused structural issues.
DBKL received reports from residents of nearby PPR Wangsa Sari about the explosion on Thursday.
A city hall inspection of the construction site found cracks in the shear wall, pillars, and floors in units above the eighth floor of Block C of the J Satine apartment project.
The city hall has instructed the developer to maintain the construction site, ensuring it is safe and clean. The developer must also hire an independent engineer to inspect the structural integrity of the entire J Satine apartment project.
The developer must present a report on the findings of the structural integrity inspection to the city hall. Based on the independent engineer’s recommendations, the developer will carry out remedial works, DBKL added.
The stop-work order, issued under the Street, Drainage And Building Act 1974 (Act 133), will remain in effect until the developer complies with all of DBKL’s instructions.
The cause of the explosion and the structural failure remain undetermined, pending the structural integrity report’s submission to the city hall.
“DBKL views the incident seriously and advises the public not to make any speculations or baseless statements on social media,” the city hall added.
Yesterday, project developer Gandingan Jakel acknowledged the viral videos and images on social media in a statement, saying it has undertaken all safety measures in accordance with safety regulations to ensure public safety and the interests of its buyers.
The developer also emphasised that the project development has been carefully planned and that the construction process aligns with the regulations and ethics practised by relevant professional bodies.
“At present, we’re teaming up with expert advisors and a special task force to provide an accurate picture of the project’s status.
“We aim to provide an accurate assessment and show that the construction site issue has been misrepresented,” Gandingan Jakel added. – November 9, 2024
