KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysians have taken to social media to express their frustrations after encountering repeated difficulties in completing the registration process for the MyDigitalID application.

The surge of complaints follows a recent update from the MyJPJ app, informing users that MyDigital ID will soon be mandatory for logging into the platform.

In a post on X last December, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation explained that MyDigitalID is an online identity verification system designed to give users access to various government services.

It is widely seen as Malaysia’s effort to replicate Singapore’s SingPass system, which provides citizens and residents with a digital identity for accessing both public and private services online.

However, the rollout of this digital initiative appears to be facing significant challenges. Many users have reported technical issues, with some unable to register for the new digital ID despite multiple attempts.

X user @kevinHElee said he has tried registering for MyDigital ID several times and described the process as difficult.

“As someone who has tried registering for #mydigitalid several times, it has not been easy.

“If you are facing problems registering, revoke your token on the app.

“Then try to register again. I’ve tried on two occasions going to the kiosk and the machine didn’t respond,” @kevinHElee said.

Meanwhile, @hewyk said that the application appears rushed and could have security issues.

“The #MydigitalID app feels like it was rushed out. So laggy and such an amateurish UI. Does not exude confidence about its security,” @hewyk said.

On the other hand, user @bumilangit said that he supports the MyDigital ID initiative but advised to make sure that the application is stable first.

“I support MyDigital ID, but let the system stabilise first, then we can talk,” @bumilangit said.

Sharing a similar view, @sashimi404 acknowledged that MyDigital ID is attempting a similar initiative as the SingPass but advised the public to allow some time to sort out bugs and glitches.

“MydigitalID is Malaysia’s attempt at Singapore’s SingPass

“Government services under one app. Tax, EPF, healthcare, licenses, job application etc.

“Give them time to trim the bug. I fully support this approach

“This will bring convenience, omits two physical cards in our wallet,” @shashi404 said.

The MyJPJ notification mentioned that users have until October 10 to register for MyDigital ID to be able to access the Road Transport Department’s online services.

Among other things, the MyJPJ application allows users to access their driving licence and road tax information.

While the app is not the only way to review one’s driving licence and road tax information, it has been among the methods to access this digitally when asked to prove the validity of one’s road tax since the Transport Ministry stopped requiring vehicle owners to display their road tax stickers. – October 2, 2024
