KUALA LUMPUR – Iconic Britpop band Oasis have finally reunited and announced a UK and Ireland stadium tour for 2025, marking the end of their long-standing feud that led to their split in 2009.
According to NME, after weeks of reports that the band were planning a return, anticipation reached its peak over the weekend when vocalist Liam Gallagher teased an announcement during his headline set at Reading Festival 2024 on August 25.
Oasis and guitarist Noel Gallagher’s social media accounts soon followed, sharing a teaser and promising fans that news would be revealed at 8am today.
The band have now confirmed the Oasis Live 25 world tour, with 14 stadium dates scheduled across Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin next summer. These will be their only European shows in 2025, but a press release suggests that plans are in motion for the tour to visit other continents later in the year.
Alongside a new photo of the Gallagher brothers together, taken by Simon Emmett, Oasis have issued a brief statement about reconciling after the public fallout that led to their split in 2009.
“The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised,” the group said.
According to the Independent, the reunion had been hinted at for months, most notably in a surprise interview last week where Noel offered rare praise for his younger brother.
Both Liam and Noel have enjoyed successful solo careers since the band’s split – Liam as a singer-songwriter and Noel with his band, the High Flying Birds.
The reunion announcement comes just ahead of the 30th anniversary of Definitely Maybe, Oasis’ record-breaking debut album. Next year will also mark the 30th anniversary of their follow-up, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, one of the best-selling albums by a British act.
The tour will include four nights at Heaton Park in Manchester, the band’s home town, from July 11 to 20, along with four shows at Wembley Stadium in London from July 25 to August 3. Gaps in the tour schedule suggest that additional dates may be added later.
Sources close to the band have indicated that the reunion has been in the works for some time.
“I never did like that word FORMER,” Liam, 51, teased of his frontman status just hours before, responding to fans urging him to confirm the news.
In 2017, he was quick to praise Noel as “a good songwriter” and admitted he missed being in a band with his brother, even though he wasn’t fond of giving interviews.
One of the biggest signs that the brothers had reconciled came when Noel recently offered rare praise for Liam in an interview. “It’s the delivery or the tone of his voice and the attitude,” Noel said of Liam’s performances on hits such as Slide Away, Cigarettes and Alcohol, and Rock ’N’ Roll Star. – August 27, 2024
