Orang Asli child murder probe 99.9% complete, charges to follow: Perak top cop

Several people have been interviewed including complainant, witnesses, family acquaintances, residents in Kg Pos Bersah

LENGGONG – The investigation into the death of a 10-year-old Orang Asli girl, believed to have been raped and murdered in Kg Pos Bersah, Pos Kuala Mu, near Sg Siput, is almost finalised.

Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said that several individuals have been interviewed, including the complainant, witnesses, family acquaintances, and residents. 

“We have also detained a male suspect and considered the views and various elements from relevant experts. 

“The investigation is nearly complete…99.9%. Once done, we will proceed to charges in court,” he said at a press conference after inspecting repair work on the Lenggong police station quarters today. 

Nuraina Humaira Rosli, who was reported missing last Friday, was found dead in a swampy area of the village the following day.  

Sg Siput police chief Mohd Khaizam Ahmad Shahabudin reported that the child’s body was discovered around 4.20pm after a search involving approximately 60 individuals, including police, firefighters, locals and the Royal Malaysia Police’s K9 unit. 

He said the investigation had been reclassified following preliminary autopsy results, which indicated that the victim died due to compression of the neck, and there were also signs of tearing in the private parts.  

A 17-year-old male suspect has been remanded for one week until October 25 to facilitate further investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code. – August 23, 2024
