GEORGE TOWN – Jagdeep Singh Deo is not being replaced but is on leave to seek medical treatment, said Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, amid talks of his deputy being put on garden leave due to “personal problems”.
Chow rubbished speculation that he would appoint a replacement deputy, saying that such a matter has never been raised before.
He added that Jagdeep told him he needed the leave for a checkup and possible surgery for his left leg.
“After listening to YB Jagdeep’s explanations and reasoning for his leave application, I have approved an 11-day leave, from July 22 until August 5, as per his application.
“I was informed that YB Jagdeep had undergone the necessary treatment on July 22.
“Myself as well as the Penang government pray that YB Jagdeep recovers quickly and resumes (his duties) to continue the state development agenda for the benefit of the rakyat.”
Chow’s statement came after talks that Jagdeep, who is also Datok Keramat assemblyman, was on garden leave to tend to “personal problems”.
Jagdeep has since rubbished the speculation and said he had applied for leave until the end of the week to seek medical treatment for his ankle.
He also refuted claims suggesting he was ordered to take leave of his administrative duties. – July 23, 2024
