KUALA LUMPUR – Three long-time friends – comedian Joanne Kam, singer Ning Baizura and former radio personality Shazmin Shamsuddin – will be bringing their woman-centric podcast The WOW Show to a live audience.
While season 3 of the podcast is on a brief hiatus, the trio will be putting together a live performance at the Petaling Jaya Performing Arts Centre (PJPAC), 1 Utama, on August 9 and 10.
They promise two no-holds-barred evenings of uproarious laughter and edgy humour, but are making it more than just a comedy show.
“Obviously, there are some things that are off-limits – sometimes a little sensitivity and self-censorship is needed. We’re all aware of where we are living and, especially now, because of social media, we need to be diligent in ensuring our comedy doesn’t get judged out of context,” Joanne said.
“And this is a very special production as it involves not only me but also Big Boom Media with Scoop as our official media, Shazmin, and Ning. I am blessed that I have their trust.
“It is the first time that I will be directing not only the skits but also Ning’s mini-concert. So, it is rather different from just producing a stand-up comedy showcase.”
For fans of Malaysia’s iconic soul singer Ning, the highlight of the evening will be her mini-concert, which will feature her new single alongside a medley of remixed hits.
This performance will serve as a teaser for a bigger concert next year, celebrating her 50th birthday.
“I don’t know why it took so long to release a new song. I think I’ve always had a lot of remixes, but inspiration just didn’t come together before this. This new single is fully composed and written by me, so I guess I needed the right inspiration and the time.
“I was in no rush to come up with a new single because all my old hits are still fan favourites. But I’m really happy to receive the inspiration now, and I hope you’ll love it,” added Ning.
A newcomer to the stage is Shazmin, who said this production is way out of her comfort zone.
“Radio and podcasting are a different animal to what Joanne and Ning do on any given Friday night, but there comes a time in life when you just have to do the thing that scares you the most.
“In this case, it is wearing a vibrant frock and actually being seen. In public. On a stage and under bright lights! I’m actually a very private person despite the things coming out of my mouth. I think it’ll be a good laugh, so do come and have a fun night with us.”
Joining in the sass is a talented cast of stand-up comedians, including Shamaine Othman, Papi Zak and Kael, supported by multifaceted personalities Sheikh Irfan Mansor and Izzaldin K.

Tickets are available now at www.onetix.com.my, with an early bird discount of 10% available until July 31. They are priced at RM250 (VVIP), RM180 (VIP), RM120 (normal) and RM100 (regular). VVIP ticket holders will have a meet and greet with the trio after the shows.
Debuting last December, The WOW Show podcast is produced by PODaBOOM, the podcast arm of Big Boom Media Sdn Bhd, and airs every Wednesday on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
The trio brings a Gen X perspective to a wide array of topics, including careers, relationships, parenting, health, mental wellness and navigating middle age. They blend humour, experience and irreverence to tackle taboo subjects and complex discussions. – July 12, 2024
