KUALA LUMPUR – As many as 99 people suffered from food poisoning after consuming meals from the school’s canteen in Batu Pahat, Johor, last Thursday.
Speaking to Scoop, Johor’s Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the affected individuals comprised 90 students and nine teachers from the school.
He also said that 11 victims sought medical treatment at clinics due to the symptoms of food poisoning.
“99 individuals, comprising 90 students and nine teachers, experienced symptoms of food poisoning after consuming food from the canteen.
“11 of them sought treatment at a clinic, while others may not have sought medical attention due to milder symptoms,” he said.
Ling said that the canteen operator has been directed to temporarily suspend operations for two weeks, from last Friday until July 11.
“An order to temporarily close the establishment has been issued, and authorities from the Batu Pahat District Health Office have visited the premises to take further action.”
“Food samples were collected and sent to the laboratory for examination,” he said.
It was reported that students and teachers suffered from food poisoning, allegedly due to consuming chicken cutlets. – June 30, 2024
