KUALA LUMPUR – A high-speed chase on the North-South Expressway (Plus) culminated in a shootout at the Tg Malim rest area last night, resulting in the deaths of two men.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that the incident began around 11.32pm when officers from the Bukit Aman and Perak Criminal Investigation Departments started pursuing a suspicious grey Proton Waja.
Hussein said that, realising they were being tailed, the suspects attempted to flee north on the expressway.
The police pursued them to the Tg Malim rest area, where they managed to stop the vehicle. However, the suspects fired several shots at the officers, prompting the police to return fire until the situation was secure.
“After the situation was brought under control, the suspects were found in a bloodied state and had succumbed to their injuries,” Hussein said in a statement today.
One of the deceased had 23 prior criminal records and was wanted in six cases. The identity of the second suspect is still being determined.
The investigation is ongoing under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 8 of the Arms Act 1960. – June 2, 2024
