PENAMPANG – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call for politicians to stop attacking Putrajaya over the 40% revenue entitlement stems from the criticism taking on a racial and religious tone in the peninsula, said Sabah Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
Masidi added that Anwar’s statement on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) should be seen in a positive light as he will fulfil Sabah’s rights.
“My interpretation is that he is willing to consider all (avenues) that need to be done to comply with the MA63.
“I think (Anwar asking politicians to stop criticising) is referring more to what is happening in West Malaysia, where demands have taken a racial and religious tone. I think that was what he meant,” Masidi said when met at Hongkod Koisaan KDCA after the closing ceremony of the Sabah state-level Kaamatan festival, here, today.
“Let’s just look at it positively.”
Masidi was encouraged by Anwar’s statement that this government had resolved the majority of the outstanding issues under MA63, as compared to previous governments.
Earlier, Scoop reported that Anwar urged politicians in Sabah to stop criticising and denying the federal government’s efforts to restore Sabah’s rights as outlined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Federal Constitution.
He said the total allocation allotted for Sabah this year, amounting to RM16 billion, is more than the allocation requested by the state under the 40% revenue entitlement. – May 31, 2024
