KUALA LUMPUR – Police have opened an investigation into an alleged assault of a person with a disability by a bodyguard of a VIP, but no arrests have been made so far.
Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain confirmed a police report lodged on the incident and that an investigation paper has been opened under Section 323 of the Penal Code on voluntarily causing hurt.
“I can say that an investigation paper is open, there have not been any arrests,” he told a press conference at Bukit Aman headquarters today.
“We do not know why (the victim) was hit. Even he did not know why he was hit.”
Suhaily declined to comment when asked if the victim was still receiving treatment.
The victim and complainant who lodged the police report is said to be an e-hailing driver who is deaf.
The police report, which has gone viral on social media, alleged that one of the VIP’s entourage had knocked on his car window to move his vehicle outside a hotel yesterday, before punching his head.
The report states that the victim had gone to receive treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a soft tissue injury.
The offence of causing injury is under Section 323 of the Penal Code and carries a maximum two years’ jail or fine of up to RM2,000, or both. – May 29, 2024
