KUALA LUMPUR – More trees fell in the Bangsar and Kerinchi areas, blocking off roads as heavy rain and strong winds hit Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.
A tree in Jalan Pantai Permai, near Pantai Hillpark, was uprooted and blocked the two-lane road, cutting residents off from heading to Jalan Kerinchi and towards the New Pantai Expressway.
Many vehicles had to turn back as the downpour continued.
Meanwhile, a huge tree fell along Jalan Bukit Pantai, in front of the Air Selangor building, blocking all roads heading to Pantai Hospital in Bangsar.
According to Facebook user A Long Yd, roof sheets at the Putra Ria Apartment in Bangsar fell onto the parking lot, damaging several cars, due to the bad weather.
Several large trees in the Universiti Malaya campus were also uprooted and fell on roofs and cars, among others.
A student told Scoop that trees had fallen on a building near the cafeteria of the Raja Dr Nazrin Shah Residential College and at the library area.
The trees also blocked pavements and damaged an electric pole.
In addition, the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department said it received several distress calls about more fallen trees today.
At least four areas were affected – near the BHP gas station in Jalan Klang Lama, First Residential College in UM, the Trellises apartment and Jalan Leong Yew Koh in Taman Tun Dr Ismail here.
The incident at Jalan Klang Lama damaged four three-tonne lorries, it said in a statement.
Main roads in all four areas have been cordoned off and no casualties were reported. – May 25, 2024
