Two MMEA personnel injured after being shot in waters off Kunak

They were patrolling when they encountered a boat moving suspiciously

KOTA KINABALU – Two Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) personnel were injured after being shot while carrying out a patrol under the Op Khas Pagar Laut in Kunak waters at 8.30am today.

Sabah and Federal Territory of Labuan MMEA director Maritime first admiral Datuk Che Engku Suhaimi Che Engku Daik said at the time of the incident, MMEA personnel saw a boat being navigated suspiciously in the waters.

However, upon approaching the boat, three suspects who were believed to be onboard, opened fire at the officers.

The boat fled the scene and the injured personnel were taken to Kunak Hospital for further treatment, he said when contacted by Bernama today.

The investigation is ongoing, and he urged the public not to make any speculations about the incident. – April 7, 2024
