KUALA LUMPUR – BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) Malaysia has maintained McDonald’s Malaysia remains under the “Organic Boycott Targets” category despite the fast-food chain dropping its defamation suit.
“We are not surprised by their decision, as we have consistently maintained that their claims were without merit and lacked legal foundation.
“Moving forward, McDonald’s will remain categorised under ‘Organic Boycott Targets’ by BDS Malaysia,” it said in a statement on X.
BDS Malaysia said McDonald’s continued to be a target for boycott by “conscientious individuals worldwide” due to the chain’s alleged complicity in the Israel-Palestine war, which the group said had led to more than 32,000 deaths – most of whom were women and children.
At the same time, the group has urged people worldwide to continue their boycott efforts against Israel, and all entities “complicit in the perpetuation of injustices”, until Palestine is free and receives justice.
Earlier today, McDonald’s Malaysia managing director Datuk Azmir Jaafar said the group acknowledged the fast-food operator in Israel was independent of the one in Malaysia.
“We hope that the decision made today will allow all parties to move forward and focus on finding a resolution that upholds justice.”
He reiterated McDonald’s Malaysia’s stance against any conflict or war as a 100% Muslim-owned business. – March 22, 2024
