KUALA LUMPUR – Maybank has issued an apology due to its MAE app experiencing a significant increase in user traffic following the RM100 redemption of the e-wallet aid for intended recipients beginning today.
Taking to social media, the bank stated that it is presently trying to resolve the ongoing issue.
“We are experiencing high volume with regard to the RM100 e-Madani credit via our MAE app and please be rest assured that we are working to resolve this.
“We apologise for the inconvenience.”
The bank’s ongoing issue saw many netizens expressing their frustration, questioning the bank as to why it did not improve its system weeks before the e-wallet amount was supposed to be credited to eligible recipients’ accounts.
However, others were more positive and highlighted that the aid is being channelled up to February 2024, and not just today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, during the tabling of Budget 2024 for a second reading in the Dewan Negara, announced last month that recipients eligible for the one-off RM100 e-wallet assistance will be able to redeem it between December 4, 2023 and February 20, 2024.
The e-wallet facilities involved are Maybank’s MAE, Petronas’ Setel. ShopeePay and Touch ‘n Go eWallet.
“The e-wallet service providers will be providing additional incentives in the form of vouchers, cashback, discounts or reward points during the redemption period.”
The cash aid was announced when he tabled the bill in the Dewan Rakyat on October 13.
It is to be credited to all Malaysians aged 21 and above with annual income below RM100,000.
Meanwhile, new applications for the Rahmah cash aid (STR) programme will be open for the entire year, instead of once a year – and the first payment of up to RM500 will be credited in February 2024.
Anwar had also announced that the maximum rate for the cash aid programme would be raised to RM3,700 next year from the previous RM3,100, and the minimum rate for youths would also be increased from RM350 to RM500.
The government had also decided to expand the Rahmah basic needs aid (Sumbangan Asas Rahmah) from 200,000 to 700,000 STR recipients and extend the disbursement period for the RM100 per month to 12 months, compared to six months previously. – December 4, 2023
