KUALA LUMPUR – Former Wanita PKR information chief Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah has been summoned by police for investigations into reports on social media posts allegedly slandering the prime minister’s wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

In a message forwarded to the media, Syarul, better known as “Ratu Naga”, said she was contacted by the Bukit Aman classified crime investigation unit today and told to appear at its office at 10am tomorrow.

“The investigation concerns a police report filed by a PKR member (mentioning a post on) my Instagram account.

“I will be present with my lawyer Zaid Malek,” she said.

She added that the post in question involves Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Instagram account, which uploaded pictures of UN General Assembly leaders and their wives, including Dr Wan Azizah, at an afternoon tea event.

Also present at the event was Netanyahu’s wife, Sara Netanyahu, and US President Joe Biden’s wife, Jill Biden.

On October 23, four police reports were filed by PKR members against several social media account owners who allegedly defamed Dr Wan Azizah, who is also former deputy prime minister and current Bandar Tun Razak MP, by associating her with Israel.

Three police reports were made by Bandar Tun Razak PKR at the Cheras district police headquarters while the party’s youth wing lodged one report at the Dang Wang district police headquarters.

Bandar Tun Razak Wanita PKR leader, Jamilah Syed Mohamad, said that the report was made against four social media account owners who allegedly edited photos of Dr Wan Azizah to be made into video clips and uploaded to social media.

In April 2020, Syarul said she was sacked from her PKR post and stripped of her membership, without any reason given.

In September this year, she was among 16 people who were summoned by police over the Himpunan Selamatkan Malaysia gathering, which had allegedly breached the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012. – October 29, 2023
