KUALA LUMPUR – The government will ensure that food prices remain stable in view of the rationalisation of diesel prices next year, said Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli.

He said that targeted subsidies are important to ensure that only those who are truly in need would receive them, while strengthening the government’s fiscal position at the same time.

In his reply to a question in the Dewan Rakyat today, regarding the price increases due to the rationalisation of diesel prices next year, he said efforts are being taken to boost food supplies and food security for the people in dealing with the impact from inflation, which is projected to be around 2.1% to 3.6% next year.

“For example, the government is implementing agribusiness initiatives under the People’s Income Initiative to ensure that the target group has sufficient income,” he said.

His reply to the supplementary question from Onn Abu Bakar (Batu Pahat-PH) was read by the Local Government Development Deputy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir. – October 25, 2023
