KUALA LUMPUR – Elected representatives have to pledge their utmost loyalty to the state, not to their political parties or personal agendas, said Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of Negri Sembilan menteri besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, the ruler lamented how certain quarters attempted to jeopardise the government’s political stability without reason, instead acting for selfish reasons.
He called on the reps to keep in mind that such actions will have consequences for the state administration and the people.
“I remind all the people’s chosen representatives that you are entrusted by the people to voice all their problems and needs in formulating and implementing a policy or decision,” he said at the Istana Besar Seri Menanti in Kuala Pilah this afternoon.
“Therefore, your focus and priority are on the interests and services of the people of this state. This is because your main loyalty is to the state, not to any political party or personal needs.”
Tuanku Muhriz said Negri Sembilan needs people of honour to lead the state – those who live up to the “Yang Berhormat” titles.
As such, he said misappropriating the power and position they receive will result in the fragility of policy implementations, which were intended for the sake of the people.
Nonetheless, the ruler said the state government has refined its management and administration qualities, especially in terms of integrity and efficiency.
He expressed gratitude to the latest state legislative assembly for their service and contributions in the last term, while also congratulating those elected this term.
Tuanku Muhriz also advised all representatives to continuously work together, maintain decency, and participate in every assembly meeting.
This is to ensure that the people and state will always benefit from the policies formulated and implemented, he added. – August 14, 2023
