KUALA LUMPUR – Former People’s Progressive Party (myPPP) president Tan Sri M. Kayveas yesterday lodged a police report against several members for breaking and entering into the party’s office in Kg Attap here.
According to his police report, several members were allegedly tearing down the building sign and breaking the door lock with a cutter.
“At around 2pm, I received a WhatsApp message from a friend that my office at Wisma Tan Sri Kayveas had been broken into.
“I was also informed by my tenant that those individuals who broke into my office claimed that they received a court order (for me) to vacate the premises immediately.
“But to my knowledge, I have not received any court order from said individuals about vacating the premises.”
A video shows president Datuk Seri Maglin Dennis D’Cruz and several myPPP members at a building while another shows a man tearing a sign bearing Kayveas’ name.
“I am concerned that important documents belonging to the law firm, personal and court case-related documents as well as my client’s confidential information were lost or read during the intrusion,” Kayveas said in his police report.
In March last year, the high court here ordered the disputed building to be surrendered to the Insolvency director-general (DGI).
Judicial commissioner Ong Chee Kwan made the ruling in a suit by 12 myPPP members against former president Kayveas for allegedly transferring the building ownership without consent.
The DGI, in the meantime, was appointed to administer myPPP’s assets following its deregistration on January 14, 2019.
Kayveas told Scoop the action was high-handed and reeked of abuse of power and even contempt of court.
“I’m not done yet. I’m also planning to report to the MACC (Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission).”
Earlier yesterday, the high court here fixed August 28 to hear the application of the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) objection to a leave for judicial review sought by Kayveas to annul the election of D’Cruz as myPPP president.
Meanwhile, Kayveas’s lawyer Ragunath Kesavan said what was filed was an order to challenge the Home Ministry’s decision to approve myPPP’s appeal against the party’s deregistration.
“Only the home minister can make that decision but in this case, it was an officer.”
He said the April 11 letter must be signed by the home minister or expressly states it is on the order of the minister. – August 4, 2023
