PETALING JAYA – Bersatu women’s wing chief Datuk Seri Rina Harun are among the 56 Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidates to be fielded in Selangor for the upcoming state polls.

31 candidates from the total represent Bersatu, while 17 and eight are from PAS and Gerakan, respectively.

The former cabinet minister will be contesting in the Batu Tiga state seat, which previously been under PKR’s Rodziah Ismail since 2008.

Meanwhile, former Selangor Umno chief Tan Sri Noh Omar’s daughter, Nurul Syazwani, will vie for the Permatang seat.

Following confirmations that PN information chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali will be contesting in Hulu Kelang, the Bukit Antarabangsa seat where he was the incumbent is now contested by Bersatu’s legal and constitution bureau deputy chief Sasha Lyna Abdul Latif instead.

A controversial selection by PN would be Muhammad Fazil Dali for the Pandan Indah seat. Fazil was the founder of A.C.T. Charity Organisation, a group which had previously leaned towards “gangsterism” and was “mischievous” in its philanthropy.

Speaking at the coalition’s candidate announcement ceremony yesterday, coalition chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the ensemble had passed vetting processes with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the Inland Revenue Board, the Insolvency Department, and the police.

PN’s candidates for Terengganu and Kelantan will be announced later tonight.
