IPOH – Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming confirmed that police have recently recorded his statement in relation to a Christmas celebration organised by his ministry.
Nga said officers from the Tapah district police station in Perak took his statement at his office in Putrajaya, a process that lasted 90 minutes.
He explained that the investigation followed police reports lodged by Pas, but noted that the authorities were unable to specify the legal provisions being applied in their inquiry.
“This is because the ministry celebrated Christmas on Christmas Day. I find it strange – surely we wouldn’t celebrate Deepavali on Christmas or Hari Raya during Chinese New Year?”
“Of course, we celebrate Christmas on Christmas Day. Moreover, the people singing (Christmas carols) were Kadazandusun and Christian individuals from Sabah and Sarawak,” he said, as quoted by local media.
Nga revealed that he had to cancel three engagements to accommodate the police interview.
“I also sympathise with the officers who travelled from Tapah early in the morning to Putrajaya to record my statement,” he added.
Previously, Pas claimed that 69 police reports were lodged against Nga concerning the open Christmas celebration held at his ministry’s premises, which allegedly involved Muslim staff members. – January 16, 2025
