SHAH ALAM — A special team at Bukit Aman has taken over the investigation into the acid attack on Selangor FC player Muhammad Faisal Abdul Halim, the Selangor State Assembly was told today.
The team is under the Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) Classified Crimes Investigation Unit, the assembly’s Deputy Speaker Kamri Kamaruddin said.
The state assembly office had received feedback from Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, Kamri said during proceedings today, Bernama reports.
“The feedback is that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) are taking this investigation seriously, and the case has been handed over to a special team from the Classified Crimes Investigation Unit, under the CID of Bukit Aman.
“This team has the expertise and advanced equipment to better identify and apprehend the suspects involved in this incident,” Kamri said before starting the question and answer session today.
The update from the police to the assembly office was in response to an emergency motion in the state assembly to condemn extreme actions and violence against athletes, and to call for a thorough investigation into the acid attack.
The motion, submitted by Abbas Salimmi Che Adzmi (Seri Serdang-PH) on July 5, was unanimously passed during the previous sitting after debate by five state assemblymen.
On May 5, Faisal, 26, who is 2023 Asian Cup Top Scorer, was a victim of an acid attack at a shopping mall in Kota Damansara, resulting in fourth-degree burns to several parts of his body. – November 25, 2024
