KUALA LUMPUR – A man suspected of murdering his wife at a hotel yesterday has been remanded for seven days, until June 27.
Magistrate Azlin Zeti Zainal Abidin granted the remand application after the 36-year-old man was brought to the Batu Gajah magistrates’ court at 8.33am today.
The unemployed suspect was remanded to assist police in the investigation of the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty upon conviction.
It was reported yesterday that the man surrendered himself at the police station at 2pm after admitting to stabbing his 32-year-old wife to death in a hotel in the town.
According to Batu Gajah district police chief Md Noor Aehawan Mohammad, the motive for the murder is believed to be the husband’s dissatisfaction towards his wife, who had kept asking for a divorce even after he had tried to convince her otherwise.
He said investigations also found the victim’s body with stab wounds and the murder weapon in a hotel room.
The investigation also revealed that the couple had come to the hotel separately and stayed a night in the same room, Noor added. – June 21, 2024
