KUALA KUBU BAHARU – Pang Sock Tao, the unity government’s candidate for the by-election here said her campaign has been conducted lawfully, dismissing threats of an election petition to be filed by rival Perikatan Nasional (PN) if she wins the polls this Saturday.

“We are not threatened by the statement. I am confident that we are complying with existing laws, so I am not disturbed nor do I feel threatened,” she said today in response to PN chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

Takiyuddin, who is also PAS secretary-general, said the opposition would file an election petition to challenge the by-election result if Pang wins.

He said PN had evidence that the government machinery was being abused to induce voters to support Pang, who was the press secretary to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.

Pang, when met by reporters this morning after a visit to an early voting centre at a police training college here, said Takiyuddin could say whatever he wanted. She then praised her campaign team for their hard work.

Early voting is being held today for police and military personnel.

Campaigning for the by-election, meanwhile, must end by midnight this Friday, before voters cast their ballots the following day.

Pang, 31, is facing PN candidate Khairul Azhari Saut, 54, who is Hulu Selangor Bersatu acting division chief.
