KUALA LUMPUR – The Selangor government will be reducing the Jom Shopping voucher value from RM200 to RM150 each, said V. Papparaidu (Banting-PH), in an effort to distribute more vouchers to those in the B40 groups during festive seasons.

Papparaidu, who is human resources and poverty alleviation exco, told the Selangor assembly that the state is hoping to help ease the financial burden of more people amid the rising cost of living.

He added that the vouchers will continue to benefit the people, especially during festive seasons such as Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Deepavali and Chinese New Year.

“The (Selangor) state government understands the people’s plight in dealing with the high cost of living.

“The government will review the voucher’s amount again, taking into consideration the current economic situation,” he said in response to a question by Leong Tuck Chee (Pandamaran-PH).

In 2022, the Selangor government increased the Jom Shopping aid from RM100 to RM200.

Applicants with a monthly household income of less than RM3,000 and who are Selangor voters are eligible for this voucher.

Last year, the state allocated RM16.48 million in its 2024 budget for the Jom Shopping programme, which was said to benefit 82,400 recipients. – March 7, 2024
