KUALA LUMPUR – The four crew members of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) helicopter that crashed off Pulau Angsa, Kuala Selangor yesterday are in stable condition, the agency’s Selangor director said.
Capt Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh told Scoop they only required outpatient treatment, which they received at the Subang maritime air base where they were flown after being rescued.
The crew of the AgustaWestland AW139 are Lt Cdr Tengku Mohd Nizam Tengku Zakaria, Lt Cdr Mohamad Azrol Saidi, WO1 John Ibno and rescue diver PO Muhamad Nurhayyat Hashim.
“The crew is safe and only required outpatient treatment. The helicopter has been brought to the surface, we are waiting for its black box to facilitate investigations,” Muhaimin said.
The helicopter with registration number M720-01 departed from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang at 9.10am for a training flight and crashed after going out of control at 9.55am yesterday.
Air traffic control made last contact with the chopper at 9.20am, and there was no distress call prior to the crash.
Search-and-rescue operations began at 10.15am, and concluded an hour later after all on board the helicopter were saved by local fishermen in the area. – March 6, 2024
