KUALA LUMPUR – A 27-year-old man has died due to extensive injuries sustained after falling onto the train tracks at the Dato Keramat LRT station last night.
On Facebook, the Fire and Rescue Department said the man was conscious when personnel from the Keramat Fire and Rescue Station arrived on scene following an emergency call at 9.10pm last night.
Operations commander Mohd Fabell Md Yasin said that the incident involved a man who fell off the platform onto the metal railing, causing both his legs to be crushed by a moving train before it came to an abrupt halt.
“In a recent development, the victim has been extracted by rescue personnel with help from the LRT technical team who aided in reversing the train.
“However, Health Ministry officers confirmed, not long after, that the victim had died due to serious injuries. The case has been handed over to the police for further action,” the department said.
Earlier, it was reported that public transportation users were up in arms over delays affecting the Kelana Jaya LRT line, with displeased commuters directing their anger towards rail operator Rapid KL.
At 10.47pm this evening, Rapid KL took to its social media channels to announce a halt in train services at the Dato Keramat LRT station due to safety concerns.
Feeder buses were provided between the Damai, Dato Keramat and Jelatek stations with a frequency of up to 20 minutes, depending on traffic flow. – December 2, 2023
