KUALA LUMPUR – The first group of Malaysia Airlines passengers arrived at KLIA just before 9am today after being left in the lurch as well as stranded in Mumbai for three days.
Lawrence Sathiaraj, the father was one of the affected passengers, confirmed this to Scoop this morning.
He said that based on his conversation with his daughter late last night, there would be flights bringing home some stranded passengers today.
However, there was a moment of panic, he said, when the passengers did not receive any confirmation via email, which left them confused in the hotel they were put in.
For him, his concerns were finally assuaged when his 23-year-old daughter was among the first batch of passengers arriving from Mumbai International Airport on the earliest flight.
He also thanked Malaysia Airport Holdings Bhd (MAHB) for its swift assistance in helping concerned family members of affected passengers in this crisis.
Meanwhile, MAHB told Scoop that one flight from Mumbai arrived this morning, and another one will be coming in at 11.30am.
A homecoming flight from London to Kuala Lumpur turned into a distressing ordeal after Malaysia Airlines abruptly rerouted the journey to Mumbai International Airport.
The flight, originally scheduled to land at Kuala Lumpur International Airport after a layover in Doha, made an unscheduled landing at BOM at 3.54pm Mumbai time on November 23.
Yesterday, Scoop reported that Malaysia Airlines was trying to bring the stranded passengers home.
Apart from Sathiaraj, many other families and affected passengers have begun flooding the carrier’s X (formerly Twitter) account, demanding answers to the redirection or confirmation on their flights home.
However, many have grown more frustrated to have received automated answers. The demand for a proper explanation continues.
Scoop has reached out to Malaysia Airlines via X and email, as well as other means of communication and is awaiting a response. – November 27, 2023
