KUALA LUMPUR – ‘Gerakan Pulangkan Najib’ has apologised for mistakenly including former chief justice Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad in its line up of speakers at a programme taking place in Melaka tonight.

Wan Muhd Zuhir, spokesperson for Gerakan Mahasis Pulangkan Najib, said there was a misunderstanding in the organising of the event, called Dialog Pulangkan Najib.

“We admit a misunderstanding in organising the dialogue… involving the former chief justice. The movement apologises for the mistake in communications.

“However, efforts to educate about the injustice faced by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will continue to be mobilised without stopping.

“We also hope to get views and input from Hamid for an upcoming series,” Wan Muhd Zuhir said in a statement on Facebook.

‘Gerakan Pulangkan Najib’ is a movement of those demanding for the former prime minister’s release from prison, where he is currently serving a 12 year sentence after being found guilty of corruption. They claim his conviction and imprisonment is the result of an unfair trial.

Earlier today, Hamid denied being a panellist at the movement’s dialogue event tonight, stressing that he has no knowledge of the event and never agreed to appear in any capacity.

A poster shared on Najib’s official Facebook page on November 10, had depicted the former judge as one of the panellists. The other panellists were Najib’s lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, former Dewan Negara president Datuk Seri Mohamad Ali Mohamad, Najib’s daughter Nooryana Najwa, and student activist Farhan Khairudin.

Hamid has demanded that the poster be removed and an apology issued to him. – November 12, 2023
