KOTA BHARU – Penang FC allowed Kelantan United FC (KUFC) too much control of the ball in their Super League match last night and this partly contributed to the former’s defeat, said Penang coach Chong Yee Fatt.
He said Penang also lacked finishing despite dominating the match at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium here.
He felt that the Panthers played well although they lost 1-0.
“My players gave too much time to their opponents to control the ball and failed to pressure them,” he told reporters after the match.
KUFC’s imported player Dominik Balic scored the only goal of the game in the 67th minute, giving the home team their third win in 22 games this season.
KUFC are now in 12th position out of 14 teams after collecting 14 points while Penang are in 10th place with 19 points.
Yee Fatt said he had told his players before the match to not underestimate KUFC.
KUFC head coach Ailton Silva said the win would motivate his team for their coming matches.
“After this, we will face stronger teams, namely Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and Negeri Sembilan, before the season ends. That’s why we need to collect as many points as possible,” he said. – October 2, 2023
