KUALA LUMPUR – Gardenia Bakeries (KL) Sdn Bhd has announced a price increase for its products, effective the beginning of October.

In a statement provided to Scoop, the company clarified that this price adjustment would impact 30 out of its 58 products.

The affected products include Gardenia Fluffy Buns (6pc) Malty Chocolate, Gardenia Puazzi Sambal Bilis, Gardenia QuickBites Vanilla Cream Roll, Gardenia Twiggies Choc-a-Lot, and Gardenia Toast’em Waffles Chocolate, among others.

However, Gardenia’s white, wholemeal, and ‘Toast’em’ sliced bread products will maintain their current prices to ensure minimal impact on the majority of consumers.

Earlier today, an image featuring the upcoming price adjustments for 30 products, bearing the signature of CEO Koh Chin Huat and dated yesterday, made the rounds on social media.

According to the notice, the price changes will range between 10 sen to 40 sen for the selected products.

The price revisions are believed to be a response to increased production and material costs.

The company’s last price adjustment notice was issued on September 1, last year.

Nevertheless, the announcement has gained mixed reactions from netizens, to the point that some have even suggested consumers should consider making their own bread to reduce expenses.

“Creating your own (bread) is not only more satisfying but economical. There will be no need to purchase (from Gardenia) after this,” remarked Anie, a netizen.

“Previously, you would buy one or two packets (of buns) as a quick hunger fix. Since the last increase to RM1.10, I’ve seldom purchased (the products). It’s simply not worth it,” another netizen, Amirul said.

Other netizens expressed their disappointment with the price hike.

“Prices keep rising, yet the bread size diminishes, and the quality of spreads remains inconsistent,” a netizen by the name of Uumiey added.

“How many more times will prices increase?” questioned Fai, another concerned netizen. – September 26, 2023
