KUALA TERENGGANU – Terengganu Polygon Cycling Team rider Mohd Harrif Saleh says he has learned his lesson, after being disqualified from last year’s Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL).

The Terengganu born rider was caught holding onto a vehicle at stage five from Kuala Kangsar to Kulim, which led to him being ejected from taking part for the rest of the ProSeries tour event.

“I have to accept the decision. For me it wasn’t a big deal, but when people saw the images I now know I have to be more careful.

“I have trained really hard for this year’s race so I have to be careful and not make the same mistake,” said the 35-year-old.

This will be Harrif’s 14th LTdL campaign, which makes him the record holder for most appearances in this race.

He said the key to such consistency is discipline and an admiration for Olympian and fellow Terengganu native Datuk Azizulhasni Awang.

“If I’m focused on something I will give it my all. I will stay disciplined by getting enough rest.

“Sometimes I struggle too… I have four kids so it’s tough to juggle that.

“When I look at Azizulhasni’s morale and his fighting spirit going through heart surgery, it gives me motivation.

“He is also a family man so for us our kids are also a source of strength and motivation,” he said.

Stage one will flag off at 11am today and will cover 187.4km from Kerteh to Kuala Terengganu. – September 23, 2023
