KUALA LUMPUR — It was a special Merdeka celebration for former national shuttler Goh Liu Ying as she welcomed her firstborn yesterday.
The 34-year-old Olympic silver medalist announced the good news on her Instagram account with a photo of her newborn sleeping in a crib decorated with the Malaysian flag.
She received congratulatory messages from her fans, fellow badminton players, the Badminton World Federation (BWF), and the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).
“Welcome to the world, my Merdeka baby,” said Liu Ying in her post. She gave birth at Columbia Asia Hospital in Cheras, here.
Former national shuttlers Hafiz Hashim and Koo Kien Keat also welcomed Liu Ying to the world of parenthood.
“Congratulations, welcome to the parents’ group,” commented Kien Keat.
Paulus Firman, the former BAM mixed doubles head, congratulated Liu Ying and wished her a lifetime of love, health, laughter, and happiness with her husband.
In April, Liu Ying hinted at tying the knot but did not reveal her partner’s identity.
The former world number one announced her retirement from badminton in January. — September 1, 2023
